Hopens Family Scholarship, In Memory of Theodore Hopens, M.D.

The Theodore Hopens, M.D. Scholarship is given in memory of Dr. Hopens, a retired physician. He was born in Poland in 1936 and during WW II his family fled the country, ending up in a labor camp. In 1952, the family immigrated to the USA. Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army, and after completing his active-duty service, completed his undergraduate degree. He graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. In 1983, he moved to the radiology department at the Olin E. Teague VA Medical Center in Temple, where he worked until 2002. He was an associate professor at the Texas A&M Medical School in Temple. Students may apply who intend to fulfill a post-secondary school’s certificate or degree program.
